Cabinet and interior painting in Sherwood Forest's wooded postwar homes (30309)
Sherwood Forest is a small, quiet pocket of about two hundred homes beside Ansley Park, laid out in the late 1940s on winding streets under big hardwoods. Many of its postwar houses have been expanded, and the interiors are where most of our work starts. ZIP 30309.

In Sherwood Forest we mostly repaint interiors and kitchen cabinets in expanded 1950s homes and newer houses, then handle exteriors shaded by mature trees. A kitchen cabinet repaint usually takes 5 to 8 working days, and a whole interior 7 to 12. We protect finished floors and keep the house usable. Call (470) 458-0461 so we can see the kitchen and rooms in person.
The neighborhood was planned in the 1940s and filled in through the early 1950s, with streets named after the Robin Hood story that loop and curve instead of running in a grid. It sits between Ansley Park and the Downtown Connector, and because no road cuts through, traffic is light. Lots are larger than most of intown Atlanta, often half an acre or more, with houses set well back among hardwoods.
That combination of older bones and constant updating defines the work. Many original ranches have been opened up and added on to, so a single house might have 1950s plaster in the bedrooms, new drywall in a family room and a kitchen with fresh cabinetry or original cabinets waiting for paint. We match sheens and colors across old and new sections, and we often pair a cabinet job with a full interior repaint so the whole floor plan reads as one.

Homes here
Expanded ranches, older traditionals and new houses under the trees
The original houses are mostly brick or painted wood ranches and a few two-story traditionals, built just after the war. Over the decades owners raised rooflines, pushed out the back walls and finished attics. In those homes we often find several generations of trim: original solid wood casings with many coats of oil paint, newer MDF trim in additions, and doors of every age. Oil-coated trim needs a deglosser and bonding primer before a waterborne enamel goes on.
Kitchens get the most attention. Original or 1990s wood cabinets with an oak grain take a grain filler if you want a smooth modern look, while painted maple or MDF doors only need cleaning, sanding and a bonding primer. We remove doors and drawer fronts, label every piece, and spray them in a controlled space. Boxes and face frames are brushed and rolled in place. We cover our cabinet finish options in more detail on that page.

Painting requests we get most from Sherwood Forest
Kitchen cabinet repaint
Degreasing, sanding and priming cabinet boxes and doors, then spraying a hard cabinet enamel so the kitchen looks new without the cost of replacing solid wood cabinetry.
Kitchen Cabinet PaintingInterior repaint across old and new sections
Walls, ceilings and trim in homes where additions meet original rooms, with color and sheen matched so the transition between old plaster and new drywall disappears completely.
Interior House PaintingBuilt-in shelving and window seats
Refinishing original built-ins and new library walls in a durable enamel, often in a deeper accent color that sets them apart from the surrounding walls.
Built-In & Furniture PaintingWallpaper removal in older rooms
Stripping layers of old paper from bathrooms and dining rooms, repairing the torn wall surface below, sealing it with a primer and preparing it for paint.
Wallpaper RemovalShaded exterior trim and siding
Washing off mildew and repainting trim, doors and painted siding on the north and east sides, where the canopy keeps the finish damp for much of the day.
Exterior House PaintingLocal conditions
Conditions inside and outside these homes
Many layers of oil paint on trim
Original trim often carries decades of oil coats. We test for adhesion and lead, degloss, and use a bonding primer so new waterborne enamel does not peel.
Plaster meeting new drywall
Additions sit against original plaster, and the textures rarely match. Skim coating the seam before paint keeps a visible line from showing under side light.
Heavy shade on large lots
Tall hardwoods keep exteriors cool and damp. Mildew grows on north trim and siding, so we wash with a mildewcide and pick finishes that resist it.
Narrow winding streets
Curving streets with little parking mean we plan deliveries and keep work vehicles off lawns and out of the way of neighbors coming and going.
Timing
Planning cabinets, interiors and exteriors
Cabinet and interior work happen year-round in Sherwood Forest, and late fall and winter are popular because families are home less and the exterior season has slowed. If you are planning a kitchen repaint before the holidays, call us by early October. Exterior painting fits April through June and September through early November. In summer we work the shaded elevations in the afternoon only once they have dried from morning dew and the previous day's storms.
Questions
Painting questions from Sherwood Forest
Can you paint oak cabinets so the grain does not show through?
Yes. Oak has open grain that shows through paint as a ribbed texture. If you want a smooth look, we apply a grain filler after sanding, sand it back, then prime and spray the finish coats. If you like a little texture, we skip the filler and the job costs less. We show you a sample door both ways.
How long will my kitchen be out of use during a cabinet repaint?
The sink and appliances stay usable most of the time. Counters are covered while we work on the boxes, usually two to three days. Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed off site and come back after curing, typically five to eight working days from the start. We tell you which days the kitchen will be fully covered so you can plan meals.
What does a cabinet repaint cost in a Sherwood Forest kitchen?
For a kitchen with 28 to 40 doors and drawer fronts, painted cabinets typically run $4,680 to $8,370, depending on whether the wood needs grain filling, the number of colors and any island or butler's pantry. New hardware holes and filled old ones are included when we know about them up front. Our price guide lists typical cabinet ranges.
Do you remove old wallpaper before painting older bathrooms?
Yes, and we usually recommend it. Painting over paper can bubble and seams show through. We score and soak the paper, scrape it off, wash away the paste, and repair any torn drywall facing with a sealing primer. If the paper was hung over unprimed drywall, removal takes longer, and we tell you before starting.
