House painters in Atlanta, GA

Atlanta painting, prepped like it matters and finished in two full coats

Peeling trim, chalky siding and tired rooms are usually a prep problem, not a paint problem. We wash, scrape, repair and prime first, then paint interiors, exteriors and cabinets across Atlanta and nine metro counties.

The short version

We paint homes and businesses in Atlanta and nine surrounding counties: interior rooms, exteriors, cabinets, brick, decks and commercial spaces. Most single-room jobs take one to two days and a typical two-story exterior takes four to seven working days. Call (470) 458-0461 any time to book a free walkthrough.

Most of what goes wrong with paint in Atlanta starts before the first coat. Humidity, spring pollen, red clay splash and shaded walls under the canopy all work against a finish that went onto a dirty or damp surface. So our estimates spell out the prep: what gets washed, scraped, sanded, caulked, repaired and primed, and with what.

Then we paint with products matched to the surface, cut lines by hand and put on two full coats where the scope calls for them. You get the same painters from the first drop cloth to the final walkthrough, and the price in writing before we start. Prices for common jobs are on our Atlanta painting price guide.

Products our painters use every week include Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore paints, PPG and Zinsser primers, and Romabio limewash for brick.

Signs

Six signs an Atlanta home is ready for paint

Peeling at the bottom of siding

Paint lifting along the lowest boards usually means moisture or clay splash. It needs scraping and priming, not another coat over the top.

Chalk on your hand

Rub the siding. White or colored powder means the old finish has broken down in the sun and will not hold new paint until it is washed off.

Soft or split trim

Press a screwdriver into window sills and fascia. If it sinks in, the wood needs repair before paint or the new coat fails within a year.

Black or green streaks

Mildew and algae on shaded walls are common under Atlanta's canopy. They must be killed and washed off, or they grow right through fresh paint.

Scuffed walls that will not wash

Flat paint in halls and kitchens marks easily. A washable eggshell or satin solves it for years.

Cabinets worn at the handles

Grease and hand wear break finishes on doors around pulls. Properly prepped and primed, painted cabinets look factory-new without replacement.

Atlanta weather

Painting for heat, humidity, pollen and red clay

Atlanta summers bring long humid stretches and afternoon thunderstorms, so we start exteriors early, follow the shade around the house and stop well before storms roll in. Paint that gets rained on before it sets up shows streaks and surfactant drips, and paint on a damp morning surface can blister later.

Spring adds a yellow coat of pine pollen to everything. We wash it off before painting and avoid exterior coats on heavy pollen days, because pollen trapped in wet paint leaves a rough, dull finish. Shaded north walls and red clay splash zones get extra cleaning and, where needed, a mildewcide additive and a stain-blocking primer.

Inside, Atlanta's older homes bring their own issues: oil-based trim that needs a bonding primer, plaster cracks, and lead paint in houses built before 1978, which we handle with lead-safe work practices.

Questions

Questions we hear on almost every call

How far ahead do Atlanta painters book exterior work?

Spring and fall fill first because the weather suits exterior paint best. We usually book exteriors two to five weeks out in those seasons and sooner in summer and winter. Interior jobs are easier to fit in, often within one to two weeks of the walkthrough.

Can you paint while we live in the house?

Yes, most of our interior jobs are in occupied homes. We work room by room, keep one area usable at a time, cover floors and furniture, and clean up every afternoon so you are not living in a job site overnight.

What happens on the free walkthrough?

We look at every surface we would paint, check for moisture, rot and peeling, measure, and talk through colors and sheens. Within a day or two you get a written estimate that lists the prep, the products, the number of coats and the schedule.

Do you help choose colors?

We do. We bring large sample boards rather than tiny chips and look at them on your walls at different times of day, because Atlanta light changes a color more than most people expect. Our room light tool above shows the basic idea.

Is it too humid in Atlanta to paint in summer?

Not if the schedule respects it. In July and August we start exteriors early, follow the sun around the house, stop before afternoon storms and watch the dew point so the paint never goes onto a damp surface or gets rained on before it sets up.

Do you work outside the city limits?

Yes. We paint across Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Cherokee, Forsyth, Henry, Clayton, Fayette, Coweta and Rockdale counties. Our headquarters in McDonough covers the southside, and our Peachtree Street office covers intown and the north suburbs.
